Wrestling Team Tops Brookfield And Bethel

Newtown High School's wrestling team defeated visiting Brookfield 42-32 in the the season-opening match, on December 19.
After the Bobcats seized an early lead with two pinfall victories, the Nighthawks began to seize control beginning with pinfall wins by Fritz Maurath in the 152-pound weight division and Steven Leuci at 160. Ryan Callahan won via pin at 182.
The Nighthawks bested visiting Bethel 63-18 on December 23.
Ben Plaue won via pin at 120, Ben Watson won via pin at 138, and Jeff Gonzalez won via pin at 145. Maurath won a decision at 152, Leuci won via pin at 160. Steven Vournazos won via pin at 170, and Aidan Almeter won via pin at 195.
