Newtown Youth Wrestling Dominates At Nighthawk Classic
Newtown Youth Wrestling showed its dominance once again as the team came in first in several categories at the fifth annual 2022 Nighthawk Classic, held at Newtown High School on December 18.
The tournament, which was sponsored by Fortis Lux Financial based in New York City, attracted 19 wrestling organizations, with 400 wrestlers from a handful of states, including Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Top three place winners won custom-made three-inch round medals. The first- and second-place teams in each division won a custom-made plaque.
In the 8U Coed Division, Newtown placed first against ten other teams, with 133.5 points, followed by South Side Wrestling Club of Bridgeport with 120 points; Danbury Youth came in third with 118.5 points.
In the 10U Coed Division, Newtown racked up 148 points against 18 other teams. Spartan Youth of Somers came in a distant second place with 77 points, and New Milford followed closely behind with 74 points.
In the 12U Coed Division, Newtown also racked up 148 points against 18 other teams, with South Side coming in second with 108.5 points and the Long Beach Gladiators of Nassau County, N.Y., placing third with 107 points.
In the 12U Girls’ Division, Newtown placed first with 22 points against two other teams, edging Team Tugman of Ansonia, which scored 18 points, and MarcAurele Youth of Niantic which came in third with 16 points.
In the 6U Coed Division, Newtown placed second against five other teams, scoring 39 points, and was bested by South Side which scored 59 points. Danbury Youth came in third place with 34 points.
In the Middle School Coed Division, Newtown came in third place against 17 other teams, with 106 points. It was bested by second-place finisher South Side with 125 points and first place MarcAurele Youth with 144.
In the Middle School Girls’ Division, Newtown came in third place against four other teams with 17 points. It was bested by GPS of Armonk, N.Y., which came in second place with 18 points, and Clayton, N.J., which placed first with 22 points.
