Louis Joseph LaCroce, 93, of Newtown, passed away peacefully at Regional Hospice in Danbury on December 26, 2019.

Louis was born on December 14, 1926, in New Rochelle, N.Y., the son of Giuseppe and Maria LaCroce. At 17, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne division with postings in the Philippines and Japan. Louis’s passion for military history and devotion to preserving the memories of our veterans’ service and sacrifice translated into his continual efforts to research and detail individual veteran’s service history on behalf of their surviving families. Louis had completed over 60 of these individual military service histories for friends and acquaintances at the time of his passing.

During his professional career, Louis held manufacturing management positions at the ceramic capacitor manufacturer, Vitramon, and a controller position at specialty printer Swan Engraving. He was remembered by coworkers as “a gentleman, a friend, and a nice guy to work with.” Louis also served for many years on the Board of Directors for the Weller Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides numerous scholarship programs and financial awards to students.

Above all, Louis is remembered as a man devoted to his family. No matter what the time, the day, or the need, Louis would always be there to provide support and guidance. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Louis is survived by his loving wife, Jeannine; his two sons, Stephen and Joseph; his daughters-in-law, Louise and Teresa; and his five grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha, Marilyn, Alex, and Tyler.

Friends were invited to call at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, on Monday, December 30, from 4 to 7 pm. Military Honors will occur at Newtown Village Cemetery, Elm Drive, Newtown, at noon on Tuesday, December 31. Burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the children’s program or technology programs at the Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, Newtown CT 06470.
