‘Accused Witches Have Their Say,’ Saturday At Danbury Museum

DANBURY — On Saturday, March 24, at 2 pm, The Danbury Museum will welcome actress Virginia Wolf of Herstory Theater, LLC for a special program, “Panic in Connecticut: Accused Witches Have Their Say.”

During this 40-minute, solo show, Ms Wolf will share the painstakingly researched tales of five Connecticut women accused of being witches in Connecticut between 1646 and 1693, well before the hysteria of Salem, Mass.

Connecticut women Mary Staples, Lydia Gilbert, Judith Varlet, Mary Barnes, and Mercy Disborough are all brought to life by Wolf, fully costumed, fully incensed, and fully frightened.

Attendees will learn more about this often overlooked topic in honor of Women’s History Month.

This event is free and open to the public. It is part of the museum’s “Locally Grown” series sponsored by Savings Bank of Danbury.

The Danbury Museum & Historical Society, at 43 Main Street, can be reached for additional information at 203-743-5200 or info@DanburyMuseum.org. The museum’s website is at DanburyMuseum.org.
