Two Records Set At Hayes Estate Auction May 22 And 23
WEST MONROE, N.Y. -- The Hayes Estate Auction, run by Iroquois Auction of
Brewerton, N.Y., produced two record sales beginning with an 1875 John Rogers
plaster and iron statue, "Bubbles," at $20,000.
Another Rogers group, entitled "Hide and Seek Whooh," (1875) brought $4,800.
Yet another statue, entitled, "A Frolic at the Old Homestead," (1887) brought
$1,250.
A 49 1/2 pound brass complex double sided clock held the most interest of any
object in the auction. Signed "Chelsea Clock Company, Boston, Mass." this
clock brought a record $12,000.
A C. Calverly marble bust in a highly carved frame reached $6,500 and a Civil
War Springfield rifle brought $1,300.
Other action included a folk art five tier shelf at $2,300 and a shell carved
onyx topped table at $800. A Nineteenth Century house patchwork quilt brought
$1,900 and an Uncle Sam poster achieved $1,300. In addition, more than 400
lots of trains brought strong prices.
