Music For Late Bloomers: Workshops With Julie Cook
Music For Late Bloomers:
Workshops With Julie Cook
SANDY HOOK and WOODBURY â Julie Cook, director of Julieâs Piano Workshop, has announced a series of free or low-cost workshops as part of the studioâs 25th anniversary celebration.Â
On Sunday, October 26, from 2 to 3:30 pm, she will present a program on âMusic for Well-Being and Stress-Reliefâ at her studio in Sandy Hook at 111 Church Hill Road. Participants will learn about the latest research in music therapy, and be guided in simple activities they can bring home to enhance their lives, including toning, humming, drumming, and ensemble playing using easy-to-play instruments. No prior music experience is necessary. The workshop is open to all interested adults and is free of charge.
A âTone Deaf Choir Workshopâ is being offered in both the Sandy Hook and Woodbury studios. This five-week workshop is for adults who have been called âtone deafâ at some point in their lives, a judgment that can cause a painful wound. Participants will learn how to engage their ears in deep listening, to accept their voices, to match tones, and finally, to sing together.
The Sandy Hook workshop will run on Wednesday mornings from 10 to 11 am from October 29 to November 19, and the Woodbury workshop will run on Monday evenings from 7 to 8 pm from October 27 to November 24. There is a fee of $35.
Adults who have preconceived ideas about the piano from prior experiences may want to try the âExploring the Pianoâ workshop. Participants will approach the piano with the wonder of a child, discovering sounds, textures, creating simple melodies and accompaniments, and finding new ways to express themselves. No previous experience with the piano is necessary.
The five-week workshop will be held on Thursday mornings in Sandy Hook from 10 to 11 am from October 23 to November 20. It will also be held in Woodbury on Tuesday mornings from 10 to 11 am from October 28 to November 25. There is a fee of $35.
There is limited space for enrollment. Those wishing more information or to register for any of the workshops are encouraged to call Ms. Cook at 426-7924.
