Women In Voice And Photo

DERBY — In honor of Women’s History Month, Kellogg Environmental Center and Osborne Homestead Museum will host two very special programs on Sunday, March 11, from 1 to 3 pm. Dramatic readings of famous women will take place during a tour of the museum, while the Kellogg center will have on display an unusual photography exhibit.

Visitors will be able to listen to the voices of past celebrated women speakers as they reappear for a program at the Osborne Homestead Museum. Volunteers will read passages from the writings of aviatrix Amelia Earhart, poet Edna St Vincent Millay, photojournalist Margaret Bourke White and biographer Eve Curie. Frances Osborne Kellogg invited these women to speak at the museum during the 1930s and 1940s when she was president of the Women’s Club of Ansonia, Derby and Shelton.

In conjunction with the museum program, Kellogg Environmental Center will host an opening reception for “Women and Flowers,” a photography exhibit by Fiord Tawfilis. The collection displays women from around the world with the native flowers of their countries. Visitors will be able to meet Ms Tawfilis and also create a panel of the Women’s Mile Mural Sunday afternoon.

Both programs are free. Call the Kellogg Environmental Center at 203/734-2513 for registration or additional information. Osborne Homestead Museum and Kellogg Environmental Center are at 500 Hawthorne Avenue (Route 34) in Derby.
