Programs For Parents

POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAMS – We get the new year off to a quick start with Parenting Programs. “Positive Parenting” (geared for parents of pre-school and elementary students) begins on Tuesday, January 11. “Welcome to the Teen Zone” (recommended for middle and high school parents) sessions will meet on Wednesday evenings, beginning January 12. Both courses run for 5 weeks, from 7 to 8:30 pm, and are held in NYS’s Parents’ Corner. The fee is $25. Also, if you would like to host a 5- week group at your home, a staff member would be happy to arrange this with you. This is a great way for neighbors to get to know one another. To register for these courses please call the office.

FATHERS’ NIGHT – Jeff Steinberg will resume this popular series on Monday, January 10 from 7:30 to 9 pm in the Parents’ Corner. Father’s only, please! No fee.

Community Programs

CAROLINE’S GIFT – In the spirit of giving, at this time of year, Youth Services would like to remind families of Caroline’s Gift. This fund was established in 1996 by friends and family of Rachel Basch and David Gould in memory of their stillborn daughter, Caroline Basch Gould. The fund’s charitable purpose is to assist the families of ill or disabled children in Newtown.

Newtown Youth Services helps administer Caroline’s Gift and identify its recipients. Anyone wishing to help the fund provide aid to families in need may send a donation to Newtown Youth Services, 41A Main Street, Newtown, CT 06470. Please make checks out to “Newtown Youth Services – Caroline’s Gift.” We thank you for your generosity.

Youth Group Meetings

The HS YAB, NYCAAP, and MS YAB will not meet again until the next millennium!

Entertainment Books

Time is running out!! Don’t wait to purchase your Entertainment Book. NYS makes these handy books available at $30 each. They make great gifts and include discount for area restaurants, videos, movie tickets, dry cleaning, etc. It’s a great way to support Newtown Youth Services. Please call 270-4335 to reserve your copy.

All programs will take place at Newtown Youth Services, 41-A Main Street (next to Town Hall), unless noted. For further information on any of the above programs, please call Newtown Youth Services at 270-4335.
