Junior Curator Exhibition Open

At Litchfield History Museum

LITCHFIELD — Chloe Bourne, Hannah Bourne, Laura Coffill and Nellie Knox, who attend Litchfield High School, recently took advantage of a popular activity sponsored by Litchfield History Museum. They enrolled in the Junior Curator Program for seventh, eighth and ninth grade students.

The program gave the four ninth grade students a real life experience in designing and creating exhibits.

Under the direction of museum professionals, these young women planned, researched and installed a small temporary exhibition that is now open to the public.

The subject the students chose is “The Death Effect: Mourning Customs in New England in the Late 18th to Early 20th Centuries.” In their exhibition the students explain that there were as many different mourning customs in the past as now. Showcases illustrate these customs with pictures, pottery, jewelry and clothing all designed specifically to honor the dead.

The exhibition is on display in the Ingraham Memorial Research Library of Litchfield Historical Society through November 30. Visitors may see the show Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.

For more information call Litchfield Historical Society at 860-567-4501 or visit www.LitchfieldHistoricalSociety.org.
