Road Rage Incident Moves From Sandy Hook To Southbury
Newtown police and Southbury police are investigating an apparent road rage incident between a motorcyclist and a SUV driver that started on Glen Road in Sandy Hook and then ended in an accident on River Road in Southbury.
Newtown police said that at about 7:15 pm on April 6, the incident started between a Southbury man driving a Harley-Davidson and the unknown driver of a Jeep Cherokee SUV.
Southbury police said that Thomas Macek, 54, of Southbury, was driving a 1980 Harley-Davidson eastward on River Road, when while negotiating a curve in the roadway, he lost control of the motorcycle and fell from it, sustaining injuries. Macek was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, Southbury police said.
Newtown police said that before that accident occurred in Southbury, Macek apparently was trying to pass the Jeep on Glen Road in Sandy Hook, but the two vehicles may have scraped against each other in the process.
Newtown police described the Jeep as a late 1990s/early 2000s style Jeep Cherokee with a metallic silver-blue paint color. The Jeep may have damage to the driverâs side window area from having been punched, police said.
The Jeep also may have some marks on the driverâ side from contact with the motorcycle, police said. The Jeep may be missing its exterior rear-view mirror on the driverâs side. The Jeepâs driver was described by police as an adult male, possibly of Middle Eastern descent.
Newtown police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
