ESSEX, MASS. — Blackwood/March Auctioneers will hold a fine art and antiques auction at Woodman’s Essex Room, Tuesday, May 29, at 6 pm, with a preview the day of the sale from 4 to 5:55.

Artworks from the estates of artists Carl W. Peters, Alice James, George Bowman and Russ Webster are prominent in the May sale, along with significant New England artworks, early American furniture and eclectic accessories.

Leading the paintings are three works by Cape Ann artist Emile A. Gruppe, including a rare view of Pigeon Cove Harbor and an early oil of fall birches. Other art includes a Carl W. Peters oil winter landscape; two early W. Lester Stevens oil landscapes; a Marguerite S. Pearson floral oil; 20 paintings from the estate of Alice James, who was a longtime student of Gruppe; 20 paintings from the estate of George Bowman; and 20 paintings from the estate of Russ Webster, another longtime Gruppe student.

Other significant Cape Ann artists represented in the sale include Paul Strisik, James K. Bonnar, A.N. Davis and John B. Foster.

Accessories are led by two rare early Tiffany Studios table lamps, a large organic bronze base with daffodil leaded glass shaded lamp and an early mosaic applied bronze base with dragonflies and a leaded glass flying fish motif shade. Other notable accessories include a bronze sculpture of Pan by F. MacMonnies, a Byre bronze of dogs and bear, Captain Howland’s Civil War sword and a doll collection.

Furniture is led by a Pilgrim century chest on frame, a Queen Anne highboy, early blanket chests, card tables and tap tables.
