Mid-Day Jazz Programs

WEST REDDING — As the cold doldrums of winter approach, jazz pianist David Morgan (pictured) invites area residents to enjoy the hot sounds of jazz during lunch hours at The Mark Twain Library.

Mr Morgan is offering Jazz Interlude@MTL, a series of sessions where he performs pieces composed by his favorites such as Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington and Miles Davis. He has begun performing compositions representing the wide variety of styles of the genre, spanning from the earliest to the most modern.

Mr Morgan’s programs continue Tuesday, December 20, and Wednesday, January 4. Each program will begin at 11 and last until 12:15.

Born and raised in San Francisco, Mr Morgan studied music at Cal State Northridge before transferring to the University of New Orleans. He was the first graduate of the university’s new Jazz Studies program studying under the legendary Ellis Marsalis. After graduation he began a career playing with many jazz greats, and as a recording artist. His career now concentrates on teaching and writing music and inspiring others to appreciate the sounds of jazz.

In addition to performing Morgan, who lives in Redding, interacts with the library’s audience, helping them to gain an understanding of the pieces he performs and an appreciation for how jazz can communicate to them while they listen.

Further information about Jazz Interlude @MTL can be found on the library’s website, MarkTwainLibrary.org. The library is at 439 Redding Road in West Redding; telephone 203-938-2545.
