Green Fair Seeks Attic Treasures, Silent Auction Items

WASHINGTON — Washington’s Green Fair, being held this year on Saturday, July 8, is famous for the treasures buyers discover at its silent auction. Donations are now being sought to attract these eager bidders.

Proceeds from the fair help support upkeep of the Green and Greenwoods Counseling Service, so all donations are tax deductible.

The silent auction features high quality items and antiques. It is the perfect place to unload an unwanted wedding present that has been languishing in the attic, the dining room chairs that no longer match a home interior, or an Oriental rug that was never really liked.

Last year, people leaving town or moving to smaller quarters were a major source of treasures, according to Silent Auction chairman Bill Fairburn. Call Mr Fairburn at 860/868-0421 to arrange for a volunteer to write out a receipt, pick up items for donation, and store them until the auction.

Other fair features that can use donations are the White Elephant Walkway and Books Galore. Items for these areas may be dropped off at the Parish House of the First Congregational Church at 6 Green Hill Road in Washington.

At the Green Fair, which will be open from 10 am to 2 pm on July 8, visitors may also enjoy the Plant Place, lunch at Barbecue Pit, and buy ice cream from the Boy Scouts or homemade goodies at Ye Olde Bake Shoppe. For more information about the fair, call the church office at 860/868-0569.
