Programs For Parents
POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAMS â We get the new year off to a quick start with Parenting Programs. âPositive Parentingâ (geared for parents of pre-school and elementary students) begins on Tuesday, January 11. âWelcome to the Teen Zoneâ (recommended for middle and high school parents) sessions will meet on Wednesday evenings, beginning January 12. Both courses run for 5 weeks, from 7 to 8:30 pm, and are held in NYSâs Parentsâ Corner. The fee is $25. Also, if you would like to host a 5 week group at our home, a staff member would be happy to arrange this with you. This is a great way for neighbors to get to know one another. To register for these courses please call the office.
FATHERâS NIGHT â No meeting in December! Jeff Steinberg will resume this popular series on Monday, January 10 from 7:30 to 9 pm in the Parentsâ Corner. Fathers only, please! No fee.
Community Programs
CAROLINEâS GIFT â In the spirit of giving, at this time of year, Youth Services would like to remind families of Carolineâs Gift. This fund was established in 1996 by friends and family of Rachel Basch and David Gould in memory of their stillborn daughter, Caroline Basch Gould. The fundâs charitable purpose is to assist the families of ill or disabled children in Newtown.
Newtown Youth Services helps administer Carolineâs Gift and identify its recipients. Anyone wishing to help the fund provide aid to families in need may send a donation to Newtown Youth Services, 41A Main Street, Newtown, CT 06470. Please make checks out to âNewtown Youth Services â Carolineâs Gift.â We thank you for your generosity.
HOLIDAY GIFT WRAPPING â The Newtown High School Youth Advisory Board will be available to wrap those holiday gifts on Saturday, December 18 from 10-3 and Sunday, December 19 from 11-3. Please look for them in the gazebo area of the Sand Hill Plaza. Donations are always appreciated.
MILLENNIUM CANDLE PROJECT â These uniquely decorated candle pots are available for sale at the Newtown Middle School and Youth services for $3 each. The Middle School Youth Advisory Board spent many hours working on this fund raiser. The YAB voted to donate the proceeds from this project to the Newtown Fund and Canine Advocates of Newtown. The YAB members thank you, in advance, for supporting this worthwhile undertaking.
Youth Group Meetings
The HS YAB, NYCAAP, and MS YAB will not meet again until the next millennium!
