To Be Next In Opera Series

SOUTHBURY — The Southbury Senior Center’s “Afternoon at the Opera” series will present La Gioconda on Wednesday, March 14, at 1 pm, in the auditorium of Pomperaug Woods, 80 Heritage Road.

The opera to be screened on March 14 comes from a production performed by The San Francisco Opera in 1979, with a stellar cast headed by Luciano Pavarotti and Renata Scotto. This production was widely hailed by critics at the time. Ponchielli’s La Gioconda is not often performed, but contains much familiar music including the famous “Dance of the Hours” ballet.
