State police report some recent criminal activity at Garner Correctional Institution, the stateâs high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road, which resulted in the arrests of two inmates.
State police responded to Garner about 5:26 pm July 9, after receiving a report of a sex crime there.
After investigating, state police charged inmate Anthony Caraway, 19, of Woodbridge with fourth-degree sexual assault. State police said that Caraway allegedly inappropriately touched a female employee at Garner.
Caraway was scheduled for arraignment on the charge on July 12 in Danbury Superior Court.
Caraway is being held in Garner on $55,000 bail on pending criminal charges including first-degree unlawful restraint in connection with a Woodbridge incident.
In another incident on July 9, state police responded to the prison at about 10:50 pm in response to a drug complaint.
In that case, state police arrested inmate Jeffery Deangelis, 30, of Shelton on charges of possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The contraband was found in the inmateâs cell, state police said.
Deangelis was scheduled for court arraignment on the charge on July 12. Deangelis is serving a 13-year sentence in Garner on a first-degree robbery conviction.
In another matter, state police went to Garner about 12:20 pm on July 8 to investigate a complaint from an inmate who alleges that another inmate assaulted him while they were in a prison recreation yard. The victim had no visible signs of injury, state police said. The case is under investigation.
