R. Kenneth Dedrick

Beloved Husband,

Father, And Friend

R. Kenneth Dedrick, 82, formerly of Hyde Park, N.Y., beloved husband of Elizabeth (Powers) Dedrick, died March 11 at Filosa Convalescent Home in Danbury after a prolonged illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his four children, Virginia Dedrick Erikson and husband, David, of Newtown, Kenneth C. Dedrick and wife, Karen, of Sammamish, Wash., Craig R. Dedrick and wife, Lilly, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Jeanne E. Pottenburgh and husband, Michael, of Rhinebeck, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Charles, Donald, and John, and one sister, Elizabeth, all from the Albany area.

Known to his friends as “Ken”, he was born in Albany, N.Y., April 23, 1923, son of Elizabeth (McNamara) and Charles H. Dedrick. He graduated from Vincentian Institute, Albany, in 1940.

A dedicated husband, he was married to his wife of nearly 63 years, at Vincentian Chapel, Albany, in 1943. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Pacific.

Through the years, Mr Dedrick was employed at New York Central Railroad and the US Postal Service in Albany, the US Postal Service in Hyde Park, and finally IBM Corporation at its Kingston and Poughkeepsie, N.Y., locations. He retired from IBM in 1982 and remained very active, enjoying gardening, golfing, bowling, woodworking, playing cards, and spending time with his wife and family. He was very proud of the home he built for his family in Hyde Park where he resided for 46 years.

An active member of Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park for almost 50 years, he shared many friendships through the church Men’s Club & Golf League and Holy Name Society. He also volunteered his time as a member of the Lions Club.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude for the loving care Mr Dedrick received during his illness at Filosa Convalescent Home and Danbury Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 15 at Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park. Burial followed in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
