Occupation: Head teller, main office of the Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main
Street, Newtown.
How long in area: I was born and grew up in Shelton. I am now a resident of
Beacon Falls, which is a small town south of Waterbury, and I will have been
with the Newtown bank four years this coming April.
Family: My wife, Kathleen, and I have one son named Kellen, who was one year
in December. Christmas with Kellen was great though he was really more
interested in the lights and the wrapping paper than anything else.
Pets: We have two cats. The oldest has been with us the longest and at first,
pretty much ignored the baby. But he mellowed over the holidays when he spent
a lot of time with him on our laps watching TV.
Hobbies: I don't ski! My wife and I both are into medieval history and we
belong to a Medieval History Reenactment Group. There are about 25 members in
the area, and we get together every couple of months in costume and go out to
entertain and visit with children who are patients in nearby hospitals. We
were last at Newington Children's Hospital. One fellow dresses up in a full
suit of armor. It's a lot of fun -- a small part of our lives but very
enjoyable.
Changes in Newtown: The town wants to grow but growth has been somewhat
limited by Planning and Zoning. Some people don't like having to hook up to
the sewer, and the bank is trying to help them manage that expense. I see an
overall reduction of open space and woodland and that is too bad. More and
more people are looking to come in.
Personal philosophy: Work hard. My parents taught me that I would have to make
my own way. I believe that if you give your employer your full effort the
entire time, it will eventually be noticed. I also believe in following a
moral life and helping others in somewhat the same way the Arthurian Knights
of the Round Table went out to make their kingdom a better place.
Maybe we can't realize the idea of Camelot or create a perfect world, but it
is a good goal to strive for.
