Trompetter To Demonstrate Quilting At Matthew Curtiss House
Trompetter To Demonstrate Quilting At Matthew Curtiss House
Newtown Historical Society will host an open house from 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, May 21. Costumed guides will take visitors through the house.
Also present will be Amy Trompetter, who will demonstrate traditional quilting techniques. Ms. Trompetter took a quilting class in Danbury in the summer of 1980 and loved it. She was busy teaching at Danbury High School for 26 years, however, so she did not have much time to develop the hobby.
Since retirement, quilting has been her passion. She still hand quilts, but her specialty is hand appliqué. She considers herself a traditional quilter but has branched out into contemporary quilts at time.
Mrs Trompetter belongs to two quilting organizations and has won awards for her quilts displayed at the various shows. She also teaches quilting at The Quilt Shop in Danbury, and does volunteer work at the Salvation Army.
Mrs Trompetter will be answering questions of visitors on Sunday afternoon.
The Matthew Curtiss House, a circa 1750 saltbox at 44 Main Street, serves as the headquarters for Newtown Historical Society. Admission is free during open house events, and donations are gratefully accepted.
