The Newtown High School junior varsity and freshmen football teams had a difficult time this past week against Foran – with the jayvees dropping a 28-0 decision and the freshmen falling 35-7.

In the jayvee game, Foran took advantage of an early turnover to strike on a long touchdown pass and take a 7-0 lead. The Newtown defense – led by Trevor Seferi and Kyle Hastedt (interception) was strong early in the second quarter and the offense had some spark when quarterback Matt Deluca hit Simon Censabella on a long pass.

Kyle Kirch ran the ball well in the fourth quarter but the ‘Hawks couldn’t strike against Foran.

The freshmen fell, as well, despite solid defensive games from Dave Marcucilli (sack) and John Morgan. Keith Gotthardt picked up a fumble and scored the Nighthawks’ lone touchdown. John Collins and Matt Selezan also had some nice pick ups on offense.

The jayvees will play Immaculate on Monday, October 22, at 3:30 pm while the freshmen played Immaculate on Thursday, October 18 (after press time) at 3:30 pm.
