First Annual Health And Recreation Expo On May 20

DANBURY — CityCenter Danbury will present the First Annual CityCenter Danbury Health & Recreation Expo as part of the Housatonic Valley Classic International Cycle Race to be held on Sunday, May 20, from 9 am to 3 pm at the Danbury Green at Ives Street.

The excitement starts at 9 am, when the starting gun alerts 200 of the sport’s top riders to begin the grueling 140-mile trek through the ten towns of the Housatonic. While the pros battle it out, international women and two men’s categories will compete in “The Criterium.” This fast action short course includes three amateur one-hour race competitions that will be run on a three-quarter-mile circuit around the Danbury Green and along Main Street throughout the day.

During the races, CityCenter Danbury will be the hub of activity at the Health & Recreation Expo on the Danbury Green with live music, food, entertainment, exhibits, and a skateboarding show. The day’s event is in support of the American Red Cross and is free and open to the public.

In addition to the skateboard show, the  Danbury Green will host bike race spectators who can get a free massage, sample sports drinks, try out “spinning,” and even play a game of pool. The American Red Cross will be raffling off a number of sports and recreation items including four R400 Cannondale bikes. The Danbury High School Cheerleaders will perform their winning cheers and Spirit of Taekwando will demonstrate martial arts. There will be live music at the band shell; food and refreshments from some of CityCenter’s finest establishments: Colorado Brewery & Steakhouse, Two Steps Downtown Grill, Ives Street Deli, Office Café, and Coffee, Please.

Race sponsors will have a number of exhibits along Ives and White Streets: Saturn’s newest cars, Cannondale’s top-of-the-line bikes; modern and historic timepieces by Timex. The public will have the opportunity to test drive a bike; sample nutritional foods; see the latest in riding gear; and get a variety of product giveaways.
