National Ham Radio Field Day

BROOKFIELD — Ham radio operators in the greater Danbury area and neighboring communities will demonstrate their emergency communications capabilities Saturday, June 26, during a national Field Day event that is open to the public.

During Field Day, trained ham radio operators active in emergency service operations set up voice, digital, and satellite radio equipment using generators, batteries, and solar power to test their equipment and skills.

Hams conduct nationwide Field Day exercises annually to better prepare to serve their communities during major storms, earthquakes, fires, and other natural disasters and civil emergencies.

In the Danbury area, members of the Candlewood Amateur Radio Association (CARA) will set up a Field Day site at Cadigan Park, 500 Candlewood Lake Road in Brookfield. The site will be open to the public from 3 to 5 pm. Families are welcome.

Radio demonstrations and a tour of the site will be available.
