SATURDAY, MAY 26 – The Millbrook Hunt Trail Ride will be held Saturday, May 26, at the showgrounds on Fraleigh Hill Road in Millbrook. There will be First Flight, Optional Jumping and Hilltopper groups – which all start at 10 am. Gourmet buffet lunch will be held at 12:30 pm. Fees are $40 for adults and $15 for juniors under 18. SATURDAY, JUNE 2 – The Golden’s Bridge Hounds will be holding a Spring Ride and Luncheon on Saturday, June 2, at 9:30 am, at the Race Track on Baxter Road in North Salem, New York. Luncheon will be at 12 noon at Stony Creek Farm on Baxter Road. There will be jumping and non-jumping rides (hard hats required) and fees (which include lunch) are $25 for adults and $15 for juniors 14 and under. Call 1-914-669-5700 for further information.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 26 – The Old Chatham Hunt Club will hold a pre-season Hunter Pace on Sunday, August 26, from 9 am to 1 pm, at Highland Farm on Highland Road in Old Chatham, New York. There will be a beautiful eight-mile course with clearly-marked arrows and flags, more than 50 varies cross country fences, and go-arounds. Teams of two or three riders are welcome (riding helmets are required and informal attire is okay). Current Coggins test is also required. Horse Shows

 

SUNDAY, MAY 20 – The 2001 4-H Spring Benefit Horse Show will be held Sunday, May 20, at the Cooperative Extension System grounds on Route 6 (Stony Hill Road) in Bethel. The popular open schooling show will feature divisions in English Equitation, Hunt Seat, Western, and Trail. Most classes will be pinned through sixth place, with the first-place winner also receiving a trophy. Divisions are awarded champion and reserve ribbons. Several year-end awards are again being offered. The high-point horse and rider combination from both the Spring Benefit and the Fall Nutmeg shows will receive year-end awards in the following divisions: Open Beginner Hunter (Clearview Farms of Sandy Hook); the Kentucky Hunter Classic (All the King’s Horses of Ridgefield); and Junior Western (Happy Trails Farm of Danbury). All other Western divisions high-point award winners will also receive a special plaque. Proof of current rabies vaccinations (within one year) will be checked at the gate for each animal. Refreshments will be available on the grounds as 4-H’ers will be offering “horse-side” service for food and drink. Bit O’ Tack will be offering horse products for sale. SUNDAY, MAY 20 - Cricker Brook Farm will be holding a schooling show on Sunday, May 20. There will be walk-trot equitation divisions which will be divided by age, beginner equitation, short stirrup, long stirrup, pleasure, schooling hunter, and children’s equitation. SUNDAY, MAY 20 – River’s Edge Farm in Bethany will hold a horse show on Sunday, May 20, starting at 8 am. Warmups will be at 7 am and at scheduled breaks throughout the day. SUNDAY, MAY 20 – The 20th anniversary Pegasus Horse Show will be held Sunday, May 20, from 9 am to 1 pm, at Coker Farm on Stone Hill Road (Route 137) in Bedford, New York. This show is sponsored by Pegasus Therapeutic Riding, Inc., which provides the joys and benefits of therapeutic riding to hundreds of disabled children and adults at nine chapters throughout Connecticut and New York. SUNDAY, JUNE 3 – Brushy Hill Farm will host its first horse show of the summer series on Sunday, June 3, in Southbury. SUNDAY, JUNE 3 – The Westfield Riding Club will have its annual Open Horse Show on Sunday, June 3, beginning at 8:30 am, at the club grounds on Fowler Road in Westfield, Massachusetts. THURSDAY, JUNE 7 through SUNDAY, JUNE 10: The Shallowbrook Charity Hunter Jumper Horse Show will be held Thursday, June 7, through Sunday, June 10, at the Shallowbrook Equestrian Center in Somers. It is an ASHA-sanctioned ‘A’ show. Prize money totals $20,000, including the $6,000 5/A Baker Blankets Jumper Classic. Call 270-8800 for events and prize information.

SATURDAY, JUNE 16 – The NBLA Spring into Summer Hunter Pace will be held Saturday, June 16, from 8 am to 12 noon, at the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard facility on the grounds of Fairfield Hills. It will feature a conditioning course with trails and fields. All fences with go-arounds. Teams may have two or three riders. Coggins and Rabies certificates must accompany entries. Ribbons awarded in Hunt, Pleasure and Western divisions. Food concession and water will be available. Entry Fee is $35 for a non-NBLA member and $25 for an NBLA or GHG member. FRIDAY, MAY 18 – Teikyo Post University’s Equine Resources Committee will present Lyme Disease – An Update on Diagnosis on Friday, May 18th at 7:15 pm, during the next Quiz the Experts session at the Waterbury college. The evening will feature the most current information on the diagnosis and treatment of this endemic disease. The Talk will feature Dr. Allen Schoen and Mark Baus, DVM from Fairfield Equine Associates, who will explain the very latest updates in determining if the horse has Lyme Disease or something else. The program will take place in the Eagles Nest, Leever Student Center on the Waterbury campus (Exit 17 off I-84). Tickets are available in advance for the price of $5, or $10 at the door. There will be a tag sale, bake sale, face painting, balloons, clowns, a Chinese auction (raffle), crafts, and refreshments such as hot dogs, popcorn, juice and more.
