‘SUMMER IN SAN FRANCISCO’ AT JOHN PENCE GALLERY w/1 cut

avv/gs set 7/25 #707232

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. — The John Pence Gallery presents “Summer in San Francisco,” an exhibition of American realist paintings and sculptures, on view through September 1.

The group show features works by 47 artists at the forefront of the resurgence in the American Realist Movement. On view will be more than 60 works, including an array of landscapes, still lifes and figures ranging in size from 7-foot canvases to jewel-like images and sculptures.

Artists represented include Michael Bergt, Jacob Collins, Douglas Flynt, Sarah Lamb, Dean Larson, Steven J. Levin, Dorothy Morgan, Edward Minoff, Clark Mitchell, Jacob A. Pfeiffer, Nicholas Raynolds, Randall Sexton, Anthony Waichulis and Will Wilson. Also on view will be works by a number of sculptors including Donald Davis, John Sisko and Gary Weisman.

The gallery’s annual “Summer in San Francisco” exhibition brings together veteran exhibitors and fresh new faces whose work appears in San Francisco for the very first time. The variety of work to be shown varies widely in terms of subject matter and sizes.

An epic new work by Douglas Flynt featuring a Civil War sword and scabbard with a flag dating from that era; lush, colorful florals by Steven Levin, Sarah Lamb, Dean Larson and Christopher Pierce; and new landscapes and seascapes by Edward Minoff and Travis Schlaht are all  of special interest.

Five painters will be featured with solo shows in the fall schedule. Steven Levin and Nicholas Raynolds will be featured, September 7 to October 6; Travis Schlaht will show, October 11 to November 10; and the season will be capped off by Jacob A. Pfeiffer and Randall Sexton, November 16 to December 15.

The gallery is near Union Square at 750 Post Street. For information, 415-441-1138 or www.johnpence.com.
