Pilobolus Will Headline Cabaret

DANBURY — Pilobolus, an American dance company of international influence, will headline a cabaret evening for the Women’s Center of Danbury’s 25th Anniversary Celebration on Friday evening, September 8, at Danbury Hilton. Joining the powerful, non-traditional company will be The Catoonah Street Jazz & Blues Society, comedienne Nancy Parker, and the trio Lee-Jam & Friends.

Tickets are $50 for the dinner and entertainment and may be reserved by calling the center at 731-5200.

Pilobolus lives and works in Washington Depot, and performs for stage and television audiences all over the world. Pilobolus’ works are also represented in the repertoires of other major dance companies including Joffrey, Feld, Hartford, and Ohio, as well as ballets in Arizona, France and Italy.

The well-known comedienne Nancy Parker has appeared on numerous television shows, onstage at Carnegie Hall, and has opened for Johnny Mathis and Peter Allen, among others. She has written for The Rosie O’Donnell Show and Jay Leno’s Tonight Show. She worked for a decade for American Comedy Network and toured New York City with a one-woman show based on the life of Bette Davis.

The trio of Lee-Jam & Friends draws on nearly 50 years of combined professional performance experience to provide classical and contemporary acoustic music in the greater Danbury area. From the Grateful Dead to Fleetwood Mac, Natalie Merchant to the Goo Goo Dolls, the two guitars of Lee-Jam & Friends combine with lots of harmony to bring audiences a broad spectrum of music.

The Women’s Center of Greater Danbury has been providing free, professional services to women, men and children in the greater Danbury area since 1975. Through its sexual assault, domestic violence and women’s resource programs, the center provides counseling, crisis intervention, prevention and education programs, two 24-hour hotlines, workshops and a referral Helpline.

For the year ending June 1999, the Center provided services to over 20,000 adults and children in the region.
