Auditions For Special ‘Amahl’ Performances Being Scheduled

For performances at the Beardsley School in Bridgeport and at the Unitarian Church in Westport on November 29 and December 1, auditions for the chorus of villagers and two principal roles (King Balthazar and his page), auditions are being scheduled for August.

The American Chamber Orchestra will bring GianCarlo Menotti’s short opera to the Beardsley School in Bridgeport. With a running time of just about an hour and a main character who is a 12-year old boy, the is uniquely suited to children.

The opera production is co-sponsored by the Social Justice Council of the Unitarian Church in Westport, to bring a complete opera experience with full orchestra to the children of the Beardsley School on a school day late in November. On Saturday December 1, the church will present two gala performances that will be open to the general public, to raise funds for the Bridgeport Public Education Fund Inc. to support programs for quality public education in Bridgeport.

According to Carl Serbell, executive director of The American Chamber Orchestra: “We believe that this project uniquely supports the integration of reading, education in general, and the central role of the fine arts in helping our children fully develop their potential.”

Contact Mr Serbell at 203-222-7190 or Cserbell@yahoo.com. Orchestra musicians are also invited to audition.

The project has posted additional information and audio files of principal performers at AmahlAndTheNightVisitors.moonfruit.com.
