Yankeemaid Chorus Wins Again

TRUMBULL — The YankeeMaid Chorus stormed the stage in Springfield, Mass., on May 5 and took home the gold medal for the fifth consecutive time in the Sweet Adeline’s North Atlantic Region #1 Competition.

The YankeeMaids scored 639 points, making them the highest scoring chorus in regional history. Placing second was Royal River Chorus from Yarmouth, Me., with a score of 615 points. Twenty choruses competed in this year’s event.

The nest stop for the chorus will be Nashville in November 2002, where they will represent Region One in international competition. Over 10,000 women from all over the world will attend the yearly event, where approximately thirty choruses are expected to compete.

The championship YankeeMaid Chorus, celebrating over thirty years of harmony, is a dynamic, spirited group of women from 33 towns throughout greater Fairfield, New Haven and lower Litchfield counties. Under the direction of Karen Sweeters of Norwalk, the chorus is ten-time champions of the Sweet Adeline’s North Atlantic Region #1 chorus competition.

Sweet Adeline’s International is a non-profit, worldwide organization of 32,000 women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony though education and performance.
