New Lebbon Road received a bit of a make over from the town earlier this week

after a homeowner complained about a set of unattractive guardrails.

The exterior decorating was done by the town's highway crew, which fastened

hundreds of feet of pressure treated lumber to a line of guardrails at the

road's intersection with High Bridge Road. The No 1 Select 2"x12"x10' wood is

purchased by the town at Stevenson Lumber in Monroe.

According to Public Works Director Fred Hurley, Dennis and M'Liss Conetta of

31 New Lebbon Road had objected to what they felt were unsightly metal

guardrails lining the road. The highway department would not take the

guardrails down, but it did agree to try to beautify them.

The wood, Mr Hurley said, is supposed to soften the guardrails' appearance. Mr

Hurley said the wood also adds to strength of the guardrails.

The beautification work, which has also been done on Butterfield Road and Head

O' Meadow Road at the request of residents, costs the town about $1-2 feet per

foot, according to Mr Hurley.
