DUI Arrest
Police report that at 12:08 am on May 11, they received a report from a person near South Main Streetâs intersection with Orchard Hill Road that there was a motorist in that area who was driving erratically, so they investigated the complaint.
Police said they stopped the vehicle in question near 71 South Main Street at about 12:36 am to investigate and found marijuana inside the vehicle.
Police said they charged motorist Michael Russo, 37, of Monroe with driving under the influence, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
After arrest processing, police released Russo from custody on $50 bail for a May 28 arraignment on the charges at Danbury Superior Court.
Rearrest Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his rearrest, Stephen T. Maloney, 29, of Bridgeport went to the police station on the night of May 8 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction and with simple trespassing.
Police said that Maloney had not responded to an infraction that had been issued to him last July in connection with a trespassing incident at Fairfield Hills.
After processing, police released Maloney from custody on $92 bail for a May 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to face both charges.
Music Player
At about 9 am May 7, police received for safekeeping an Apple-brand i-Pod digital music player that was found near Newtown High School at 12 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook. The deviceâs owner may claim it at the police station at 3 Main Street. Sergeant Darlene Froehlich is in charge of found goods.
Backing Up
Truck driver Jacinto Cabral, 71, of 43 Meadow Brook Road, who was driving a 1981 Mack dump truck at a construction project on Bayberry Drive at about 4 pm May 7, backed up and collided with motorist Steven Matsis, 53, of 46 Bear Hills Road, who was driving a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, police report.
There were no injuries. Cabral received a written warning for unsafe backing, police said.
Warrant Served
On the night of May 7, police served a rearrest warrant against Andrew Mormando, 19, of 16 Philo Curtis Road, charging him with failure to respond to an infraction and with simple trespassing.
The initial charge involved a trespassing incident that occurred last December 2, police said. Police released Mormando on $92 bail for a May 21 court appearance.
Currituck Road
About 3 pm May 10, police were operating stationary speed-detection radar on Currituck Road, when they stopped motorist Erin Koczeniak, 23, of 4 Bridle Path Trail to investigate.
Police said they charged her with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license. Police released Koczeniak on $100 bail for a May 20 court appearance.
DUI Arrest
Police report that at about 10:30 pm May 10, they spotted motorist Duane Slavin, 44, of 68 Main Street traveling southward on South Main Street with his vehicleâs back-up lights on while the vehicle was moving forward, so they stopped Slavin to investigate.
Police charged Slavin with driving under the influence and with driving with malfunctioning back-up lights.
After he posted $50 bail, Slavin was released for a May 28 court appearance.
Intersection Crash
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the hazardous intersection of Hanover Road and Schoolhouse Hill Road about 4:42 pm May 8.
Motorist Jose Moreira, 25, of Ann Arbor, Mich., who was driving a commercial 2006 Ford F-350 pickup truck, violated at stop sign at the intersection and collided with motorist Melvin Pfeiffer, 45, of 28 The Boulevard, who was driving a 2004 Mazda MX-3 coupe, police said.
There were no injuries. Moreira received an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign, police said.
Ford Vs Deer
Motorist Siobhan M. Lardner, 38, of 91 Boggs Hill Road was driving a 2007 Ford Freestar minivan southward near 106 Boggs Hill Road about 6:20 pm May 8, when a deer ran onto the road, resulting in a collision, police said. Lardner was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Nissan Vs Pontiac
About 5:18 pm May 9, motorist Ho Nguyen, 42, of Danbury, who was driving a Nissan Quest minivan eastward on Country Club Road, attempted to make a left turn onto northbound South Main Street, as motorist Karen Collins, 25, of Woodbury was driving a Pontiac Grand Am southward on South Main Street, police said.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Nguyen received an infraction ticket for failure to obey a stop sign, police said. Collins received an infraction ticket for driving an unregistered vehicle, according to police.
Mini Cooper
Police report a collision between a tiny auto and a large pickup truck at the intersection of Cobblers Mill Road and Jeremiah Road about 12:24 pm May 4.
Motorist Irene Koh, 17, of 24 Mountain Manor Road, who was driving a 2008 Mini Cooper, stopped for a stop sign on Cobblers Mill Road, and then attempted to make a left turn onto Jeremiah Road, as motorist Matthew Brede, 18, of 3 Abbotts Hill Road was driving a commercial 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck on Jeremiah Road, police said.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Koh a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.
DUI Arrest
Police report they observed motorist Kenneth Monteavaro, 41, of Poughquag, N.Y., who was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla, parked in the intersection of Wasserman Way and Oakview Road about 6 pm May 10, so they investigated. Monteavaro failed field sobriety testing, police said.
Police arrested him on charges of driving under the influence and improper parking.
After arrest processing, police released Monteavaro on $100 bail for a May 28 court appearance.
Rear-Ender
About 10:35 am May 8, motorist Jeffrey Patchen, 55, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2007 GMC Savanna van, was stopped and waiting at a traffic signal on South Main Street behind stopped motorist Richard Mulligan, 77, of 74 Main Street, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy station wagon, police said.
The GMC then struck the Subaru from behind, police said. Mulligan was transported to Danbury Hospital by ambulance volunteers to be checked, police said. Police verbally warned Patchen for following too closely.
Main Street
At about 3:45 pm on May 9, motorist Renee Byrne, 48, of 16 Taunton Lane, who was driving a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, attempted to make a left turn from the driveway at 25 Main Street onto northbound Main Street, police said.
At that time, motorist Richard Nolan, 20, of Sanborn, N.Y., was driving a 2002 Honda Civic sedan southward on Main Street, police said.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Byrne for failure to grant the right of way.
Mazda Off Road
Motorist Adam Pratt, 20, of 9 Pine Street was driving a 1987 Mazda RX-7 westward on Church Hill Road about 10:52 am May 9, when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve, struck some curbing, hit a road sign, crossed the street, and then came to rest in the front yard at 76 Church Hill Road, according to police.
Neither Pratt, nor a passenger, were injured. Police verbally warned Pratt for traveling at a speed too fast for conditions.
Sedan Vs Sedan
About 11:36 am May 9, motorist Susan Clark, 17, of Monroe, who was driving a 1990 BMW 735-I sedan, was making a left turn from Botsford Hill Road onto southbound South Main Street, when the BMW collided with motorist Judy Salerno, 60, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant sedan, which was slowing for a red traffic signal on northbound South Main Street, police said.
Salerno reported minor head pain, but refused medical attention, police said. Police issued Clark an infraction for unsafe movement.
Traveling Fast
State police report that using laser-based speed detection equipment, they spotted motorist Philip Massella, 22, of Waterbury driving 125 miles per hour in a posted 65-mph zone on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 9:26 pm May 8.
State police stopped Massella to investigate, after which they charged him with reckless driving.
Massella posted $500 bail, after which he was released from custody for arraignment on the charge on May 19 in Danbury Superior Court.
I-84 Crash
About 8:10 am May 9, motorist Marvin L. Owen III, 42, of Somerville, Mass., who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu owned by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, was traveling westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, when the Chevrolet struck the rear end of a westbound 2003 Honda Accord driven by Melba Rivera, 40, of Waterbury, police said.
There were no injuries, state police said. State police verbally warned Owen for following too closely.
