The fields are being whittled down as the Newtown Youth Basketball Association prepares for Championship Saturday on March 24.
The field has been set in the Intermediate Boys (6th Grade) and Intermediate Girls divisions, but 12 teams are still alive in the semifinals this weekend of the Intermediate Boys (5th grade), Junior Boys and Junior Girls divisions.
Who will be standing alone when all is said and done?

Boys 7th
Newtown 41, St. Maryâs 36 â David Lucia posted 12 points and Kyle Wilcox added eight more as Newtown stopped St. Maryâs.
Newtown 37, Fairfield Mustangs 33 â Taylor Steimle dropped in 18 points and David Lucia added eight more as Newtown defeated Fairfield and advanced to the championship game of its bracket against the Danbury Hawks.

Junior Boys
Thunder 60, Hawks 58 (OT) â Sean Ross poured in 19 points and Will Arndt added 16 more as the Thunder slipped past the Hawks in overtime. Ross found Doug Brodbeck open for the winning layup. James Rebman dragged down seven rebounds and Ben Stoller made two steals to spark the defense. For the Hawks, Austin Jones canned 25 points and dished off five assists as Patrick Sullivan popped in seven points and Colin Morris anchored the D.
Regulators 30, Rockets 23 â Sam Kerr scored 10 points and Greg Campbell dished off six assists to lift the Regulators to the win. Scott Wexler made three steals. For the Rockets, Brian Reed popped in 10 points and Ryan Crowell grabbed 14 rebounds. Mario Pizighelli dished off eight assists and Chad Magoulas made three steals.
Gotham Gators 47, Huskies 33 â Cody Fischer scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lift the Gators over the Huskies. Jack Kneisel and Colin Cooper scored 10 points apiece while Cody Williams and Louis Raab combined for 19 rebounds. For the Huskies, Tom Capozziello scored 13 points and Theo Hartlett added seven more. Mike Lord dished off three assists while Curtis Droniak made four steals and blocked three shots.
Vipers 44, Thrashers 35 â Max Nacewicz canned 16 points as the Vipers stung the Thrashers. Greg Frattaroli played well. For the Thrashers, John Wlasuk popped in 15 points as Keenan Bennett (6 assists), Tyler Trumble (5 steals), Mike Greenwood (8 rebounds) and Robbie Daigle (8 rebounds) had solid floor games.

Junior Girls
Hurricanes 36, Knicks 31 â Stephanie Perrotti canned 15 points and Aria Brownell added four more to lead the Hurricanes to the win. For the Knicks, Deanna Tassinari popped in 12 points and made four steals while Jessica Haitz added four points, Amanda Stanton dished off five assists and Breanne Lubinsky grabbed five rebounds.
Rebels 36, Celtics 18 â Courtney Amaral poured in 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Erin Brown dished off 10 assists to lead the Rebels to the win. Audra Sarna made four steals. For the Celtics, Mara Scallon canned seven points as Christina Caporale, Erin Bell and Kasturi Mitra played well.

Blue Devils 44, Tarheels 30 â Sean Elliott canned 16 points to lead the Blue Devils to the win and on into the championship game. Chris Erikson and Reid Schmidt played well. For the âHeels, Jack Champagne popped in 10 points and Phil Reynolds added eight more. Jay Destories, Tyler Coleman and Jeff Hoffman played well.
Raptors 41, Gunners 34 â Justin DeVellis poured in 17 points and Kevin Shpunt added 10 more to lead the Raptors to the win. Tyler Gibney, Charlie Helgren and Jack Kearney all played well. For the Gunners, Jake Feinstein popped in 10 points as Michael Daubert added eight more. Matt Rahtelli, Ivan Hutchison and Eric Fiore played well.

Huskies 41, Cavaliers 30 â Chris Carroll scored 12 points to lift the Huskies to the win. Ty Runkle, Michael Dinielli and Dan Spillane played well. For the Cavs, Matt Lindell popped in eight points as Sam Boland, Nick Strokis and Cody LaRussa had strong games.
Knicks 30, Nighthawks 13 â Justin Weiner canned 10 points and Otto Kerler grabbed six rebounds to lead the Knicks. Greg Moore and Isaac Farrington had good games. For the âHawks, Spencer Brindley popped in six points as Jon Schwartz, Brian Arnold and Tim Kelly played well.
Celtics 29, Running Rebels 28 â Nick Cagganello and Brenton Scott combined for 19 points as the Celtics nipped the Rebels and advanced to the semifinals. Mitch Stewart and Patrick Pierce played well. For the Rebels, Jack Lago scored 10 points and Brendan Peterson added four more. Alex Romeo dished off three assists as Greg Ladestro and Matt Rosa played well.
Notre Dame 30, Mavericks 28 â Ryan Pisani and Shay Demarche combined for 10 points and Angel Santos pulled down 12 rebounds to lift Notre Dame to the win. Pisani canned the winning bucket with two seconds left to play to lead the Irish into the semifinals. For the Mavs, Rob Linden popped in 11 points as Matt Baldino and Jordan Sock played well.

Mercury 33, Vols 26 â Alexa Powell canned 11 points to lead the Mercury past the Vols and into the divisional championship game. Jane Sclafani, Catherine Neave and Tess Murray played very well on defense as Melissa Buccino was strong off the glass.
Knicks 22, Lady Hawks 4 â Jessica Gibbons popped in 14 points and Lia Tassinari added six points and eighth assists to lead the Knicks to the win and into the finals. Amanda Cirelli made seven steals and Elyn Gordon grabbed eight rebounds. For the Hawks, Caitlin Yakush and Kelly OâSullivan dropped in a bucket apiece as Kiely Kuligowski made three steals and Sara Hasselberger grabbed four rebounds.

Rockets 38, Heat 36 â Logan Walsh scored 10 points and Michael Cirone grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Rockets past the Heat. Keaton McCleary dished off four assists and Max Rucinski made four steals. For the Heat, Colton Smith poured in 20 points as Joe Santella, David Matthews (5 steals) and Harry Duffy (6 rebounds) had strong floor games.
Raptors 35, Nighthawks 18 â Julian Dunn canned 17 points to lead the Raptors to the easy win. Adam Israel (5 assists), Marc Dowling (6 steals) and Eric Cascone (5 rebounds) played well. For the âHawks, Jeremy Doski canned seven points as Will Swain, Jason Ferrari and Austin Huffman played well.
Killer Bees 33, Knicks 30 â Kunal Marwah and Wiley Zahansky popped in six points apiece to lead the Bees to the win. Liam McInerney, Joey Carrino and Chris Horkachuck had solid floor games. For the Knicks, Troy Frangione poured in 18 points as Trevor Lopez added four points and four assists. Stephen Grasson grabbed five rebounds while Robbie Schreiber and Zach Weiland sparked the D.
Warriors 18, Thunder 10 â Nick Roche scored 11 points to lead the Warriors to the win. Colton Moroney, Tommy Shaker and Noah Velush-Rogers played well. For the Thunder, Jacob Hill and Nick Rosario combined for all 10 points as David Corsi had a solid floor game.

For the âStangs, Cassie Fischer and Sarah Lynch led the way as Emily Turco and Kathryn Kerins were strong off the glass.
Strikers 12, Lightning 8 â Taylor Lafave tossed in six points and Tonya Tucker supported the offense to lead the Strikers. Jenna Hansen and Rachel Buzzi had fine floor games. For the Lightning, Kate Fallon and Amelia Muratori tossed in two points apiece as Jenny Edwards and Anita Luxkaranayagam sparkled on defense.

Eagles versus Red Panthers â Madeline Manfredonia, Jessica Sharier and Victoria Kroha powered the Eagles while Carly Cohane, Sarah Bender, Kelly Merrick and Bridget Walsh paced the Panthers.
