P&Z Endorses Sale Of Utility Land
Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) members have endorsed a public utility
company's proposal to sell some utility-owned surplus land off Huntingtown
Road to a private individual.
Governments are given the first opportunity to purchase surplus land which
public utilities want to sell. If the government declines such a purchase, a
sale may then be made to an individual.
In endorsing the sale of more than 16 acres by Bridgeport Hydraulic Company to
Timothy Currier of Huntingtown Road for $70,000, the P&Z has indicated it has
no interest in having the town acquire the wet property. The P&Z endorsed the
sale to Mr Currier on March 6.
Last year, after the town expressed no interest in buying acreage on the
sweeping curve of Route 302 near Hattertown Road from the Connecticut Light
and Power Company, private individuals bought that land and subdivided it.
That land is now known as Pinnacle Ridge.
Bridgeport Hydraulic's proposal to sell the Huntingtown Road land is under
review by the state Department of Public Utility Control.
The land lies to the east of Huntingtown Road. It is a long, narrow parcel.
It's expected that at some point in the future the property will be submitted
to the P&Z as part of a subdivision application, P&Z Chairman John DeFilippe
told P&Z members March 6.
