Snapshot: Cris Fadus
Family: My husband Paul, my son Nick and his wife Victoria, and my daughter Olivia and her husband Andrew.
How did you meet your husband? At the Ethnic Festival at Rogers Park in Danbury in July 1988.
Do you have any pets? Yes, we couldn’t live without them. Rosie is our 9-year-old dog. My son’s dog, Buddy, gets dropped off every day. And my neighbor’s dog, Maggie, is like our own.
How long have you lived in Newtown? 27 years.
What do you do for work? Paul and I own Fadus Real Estate. We’re both brokers, and it’s just the two of us.
Are you a member of any clubs, organizations and/or communities of faith? I am heavily involved in Newtown VNA. It’s a great organization. It’s been in Newtown since 1918, which I think makes it one of the oldest social services organizations in the town. I’m their thrift shop manager now.
What do you like to do in your free time? Every year we try to visit my father in Portugal, in October. I love to be outside and gardening, whenever I’m able to. I also love to sew.
Who or what has been the greatest influence on your life? My parents. They were both immigrants, and they came here in their 30s, with three little girls in tow, to escape Europe’s longest-running dictatorship in Portugal.
Favorite authors? I like Hemingway and Steinbeck, the classics.
Favorite TV show? We watch BritBox a lot. We like their mysteries.
Favorite musical performer? ABBA! I love ABBA. They are my favorite, much to my kids’ dismay. When I bake, all I have to do is send a picture of the ABBA CD I have on, and they come back with “What are you baking?”
Favorite musical genre? 70s and 80s music.
Favorite food? Bread. Bread is my demise. If I was going to go to an island, I’d take bread and cheese.
What is something you cannot live without? My family, and that includes the dogs. We’re very fortunate, both our children live within five miles of us. What else can a parent want?
What is your greatest accomplishment? I’m proud of raising kids with a great sense of humor.
What is your favorite thing about Newtown? Our resilience.
Do you have a personal credo? Treat others as you want to be treated.
