Inauguration Of Sons Of American Legion Post 202

On August 6, 2025, the American Legion Post 202 officially inaugurated a Sons of the American Legion chapter. The event took place at Newtown Senior Center and drew a standing-room-only crowd. Among the dignitaries who attended were US Senator Richard Blumenthal, First Selectman Jeff Capeci, State Representatives Mitch Bolinski and Martin Foncello, and Sons of the American Legion National Vice Commander Harl “Butch” Ray. Several notable members of the community were installed as officers of the chapter.

Participating in the ceremony were Blumenthal, Connecticut Sons of the American Legion Detachment Commander JP Licari, Connecticut American Legion National Executive Committee member Robert Murray, retired US Army Major Philip J. Cruz, Sons of the American Legion National Vice Commander Harl “Butch” Ray, and American Legion District 3 Commander David Mead.

US Senator Richard Blumenthal, a retired US Army veteran, gave congratulatory and heartfelt remarks to a highly receptive audience as American Legion Post 202 officially inaugurated a Sons of the American Legion chapter on August 6.
