Newtown Youth Wrestling Association (NYWA) will host a free Introduction To Wrestling Middle School Clinic Mondays and Wednesdays beginning September 29 and running through October 29. The clinic will take place at Newtown Middle School’s B gym from 2:45 to 3:45 pm. Students can take the 4:15 late bus home.

Clinics are coached by the professional staff from Newtown’s youth and high school teams. This is an opportunity for Newtown students in grades seven and eight who want to challenge themselves physically and mentally to gain some on-the-mat experience that will teach the basics of wrestling — no experience needed.

Shorts or workout pants, t-shirt, and socks are required. If you like it, wrestling shoes may be purchased later.

“This free clinic is about opening doors. Wrestling teaches discipline, resilience, and confidence, and we want every middle school student to have the chance to experience that. We’re grateful for the support and belief from the Middle School administration — not just in our wrestling program, but in our commitment to helping student athletes succeed in the classroom as well. By giving kids an accessible way to try the sport, we’re building future wrestlers for NYWA and Newtown High School, and more importantly, preparing them to thrive in life,” Newtown Youth Wrestling Head Coach Curtis Urbina said.
