The Democratic Party Is Imperfect, But Our Newtown Candidates Are Outstanding
To The Editor:
National politics today is ugly and exhausting. That’s why I love municipal elections. They’re truly about us, not the national headlines. We can (hopefully) all agree that the Republican Party is dominated by Trump and the Democratic Party has been ineffective opposition. But when it comes to local elections, voters see through the noise. That’s why I wholeheartedly believe our Democratic candidates are the clear favorites for residents who prioritize our schools, our infrastructure, our environment, and our town’s future.
Municipal Democrats put education at the center of their platform. They know our children deserve the very best opportunities. They fight to make sure our schools are fully supported and remain a strength for Newtown.
They also take infrastructure and the environment seriously. Roads, services, and public spaces are the backbone of a functioning town. Protecting our open spaces and planning responsibly are essential. Local Democrats understand this. They work hard, budget responsibly, and prioritize the voices of Newtown residents.
All this said, I deeply respect the views of conservative residents. Many share my desire for an affordable, safe, and family-friendly Newtown. But the truth is that too many elected Republicans today fall into one of two camps: either they openly praise MAGA politics or they shamefully dodge the question. That lack of honesty does not serve our community.
Newtown is a common-sense town. We need leaders who reflect that. This year’s Democratic candidates are good, honest people who will protect what makes Newtown special. I trust them to represent us instead of their national party. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the Republican candidates. I hope to lower the temperature by voting for Bruce Walczak, Paul Lundquist, and the rest of our stellar Democratic candidates.
