NHS Football Team Falls In Close One At Windsor
Newtown High School’s football team dropped a tough one as host Windsor overcame a late deficit to defeat the Nighthawks 34-31 on September 26.
The Nighthawks led 17-14 at the half and 31-27 after three quarters. Quarterback Marcus Gerace completed 24 of 36 pass attempts for 230 yards and a touchdown throw to Travis Rekos, who had five receptions for 80 yards.
Emmett Regan had seven receptions for 49 yards, Grady Marks two catches for 48, Cole Stockwell six for 33, and Luke Stewart four for 20.
Stockwell carried the ball 17 times for 65 yards and a touchdown, and Nick Pavia rushed seven times for 42 yards and a pair of TDs.
Graham Spencer led the way with eight tackles, Kieran Garrity, Henri Quirk, and Aidan Molina each had six tackles, and Pavia had five. Molina had a quarterback sack and Caden Cuomo and Garrity combined on a sack. Mack Foss recovered a fumble and Cuomo blocked a field goal.
The Nighthawks fell to 1-2 and will look to get back into the win column Friday, October 3, when they visit Stratford at Penders Field; kickoff is at 6 pm. The Hawks are back home, following a bye, when Bunnell of Stratford visits Friday, October 17 at 7 pm.
