Atlantic Records Artist Voices Concert To Benefit Edmond Town Hall
The Voices 2023 Reunion at Edmond Town Hall was promoted as the band’s final performance, but a benefit is now being planned as the band is working on a professional video to capture the performance.
The Voices 2025 benefit concert is scheduled for Thursday, October 9, at 7 pm at Edmond Town Hall. Tickets are $10 each, and wine, beer and other refreshments will be available for purchase.
Tickets are available at edmondtownhall.org. Proceeds will benefit the historic building at 45 Main Street.
The original members of the circa 1970s-80s band were Newtown natives Corky Ballard and Frank Lake on guitar, brothers Lex Martirano on drums and Christian Martirano on keyboards, and lead singer Rod Barbour.
Ramon Colon stepped in for Lake following the guitarist’s death in 2006. Renown guitarist Frank DeMaio will be performing with Voices on October 9.
The program will feature songs seldom performed together due to the demanding technology and musicianship of the selections: The Beatles, Genesis, Moody Blues, Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, and more.
The band’s original and cover songs are exciting and driving, with beats that made them one of the most popular acts on the club circuit despite being categorized simply as “progressive rock” for marketing when signed to Atlantic Records in 1985.
As director of research at world-renown Kurzweil Music Systems, Voices Musical Director Christian Martirano developed advanced synthesizer keyboards, with clients including Stevie Wonder and John Anderson of the band Yes. He will be playing several innovative instruments during the Edmond Town Hall concert, allowing the audience to hear each song as if the original artist is live on stage.
To record a demo of their original music to shop to management and record companies, band members pooled their resources and purchased an unused modular schoolroom from the town, which they then relocated from The Hawley School to bass player Corky Ballard’s property in Newtown, and they constructed a recording studio. The Voices studio is still active.
The October 9 concert is lovingly dedicated to original Voices guitarist Frank Lake, who died after a long battle with cancer.
