State Playoff Football Schedule Set: Hawks To Host Ridgefield

UPDATE (Monday, December 1, 2025): The state quarterfinal game date has been moved to Wednesday, December 3, due to the forecast.

Newtown High School's football team earned the No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 Ridgefield in the Class LL State Playoff quarterfinals at Blue & Gold Stadium on Wednesday, December 3; kickoff is set for 6:30 pm. The game was originally scheduled for December 2 but bumped due to the December 2 forecast.

Newtown entered the final week of the regular season ranked third but, by virtue of its win Thanksgiving Eve win over Masuk of Monroe and Cheshire's Turkey Day loss to Southington, the Hawks leapfrogged Cheshire in the rankings.

With a win, the Hawks would host a semifinal game, now scheduled for Monday, December 8, at 6:30 pm.

New Canaan, which defeated NHS in the season-opener, is the top seed and will take on No. 8 Darien. No. 3 Cheshire hosts No. 6 Fairfield Ludlowe, and No. 4 Weaver/Hartford Public entertains No. 5 ATI.

Are reproductive rights really an issue that is a top priority to Newtowners? OK if you say so but if that is the narrative Brendon is pushing, it is the same as saying, “Newtown, I got nothing. Just vote for me because I’m a democrat.” And regarding assault weapons? Mitch voted to expand the ban of high-power weapons and magazines, called for extensive background checks and dedicated his vote to the memory of the lives lost at Sandy Hook. Why would you lie and try to tarnish this good man’s name? Brandon, who I thank for his service, has lived in Newtown how long? Less than a year and he’s going to solve the challenges Newtown is facing with his charisma? How much experience does really have in government? Four days before he was let go? For 14 years Mitch served Newtown with honor and civility and has never once voted to increase your taxes, has fought against hidden fees like the “Public Benefits” charges on your energy bills, and is the only voice of reason we have in Hartford fighting against government mandates. That bill that took local zoning away from Newtown was opposed by Mitch for the past seven years. It took a democratic super majority to get it jammed down our throats. The last thing we need is another rubber stamp representative in Hartford. And by the way Arnie, I loved the way you and the rest of the Newtown Democrats kicked Michelle Ku to the side of the road. Pretty classy.

And that's coming from someone who has literally fought terrorists abroad. You are on the right side of the Constitution and the right side of history!
