After a fall season of preparation and some halftime fun at football games, Newtown High School’s dance team will continue to work on its routines, and turn its attention to competition and postseason accomplishment once again.

Last year, the Nighthawks were runner-up in the South-West Conference Jazz Division before putting it all together and capturing the Large Jazz Division State Championship as well as placing third in Pom at the state level.

“We are looking forward to our competition season kicking into high gear. We will be competing Pom and Jazz at SWCs and States with the hopes of qualifying for regionals,” said Coach Emily Marks, whose team qualified for regionals last winter.

The team is led by senior captains Aquinnah Schmidt, Piper Adolfson, Sophia Martinez, and Phoenix Sealey, along with seniors Kesslyn Alvarez, Olivia Gulalo, Kathryn Kavovit, Alexa Schmid, Kayla Sinapi, and Lila Spencer.

Juniors are Ava Geiger, Astrid Martin, and Gabi Weiss. Sophomores are Ava Jackson, Kailyn Lahey, and Sophia Lasaro. Freshmen are Emory Alvarez, Mackenzie Miskelly, Keegan Shope, and Kaela Zemo.
