NHS Grapplers Topple Stratford And Tangle With Some Of The State’s Best In Ridgefield

Newtown High School’s wrestling team visited South-West Conference foe Stratford and won 64-18, losing only one match along with a pair of forfeits on January 21. The Nighthawks dominated the match with pins by Noah Blair, Owen Blair, Jake Fattibene, and Antonio Arguello. Bohdan Petryshyn and Ryder Symes both delivered technical falls to their opponents.

The Hawks took third place out of 19 teams at the 2026 Gary Tiger Ridgefield Challenge, finishing only a few points behind two of the state’s top ranked teams, No 5 Trumbull and No 2 Ridgefield, on January 24. Tournament champions included Micah Houston in the 99 pound weight division, Noah Blair at 106, Arguello at 157, and Jake Maddox in the 175 class.

Owen Blair was second at 113, Symes third at 144, Fattibene fifth at 150, Rion Lena fifth in the 190 division, and Seamus Getzinger fifth at 144.

The Hawks are slated to participate in the Connecticut Challenge Tournament in Southington on Saturday, January 31.
