Flagpole Photographers invites the community to enjoy a full month of engaging photography events this February, beginning Thursday, February 12 with “Recreate This Photo.”

The interactive, hands-on evening will offer participants a behind-the-scenes look at how some of the club’s award-winning images are created. Guided by accomplished members Chane Cullens, NECCC HonNEC; Colleen Robinson; and Robyn Abrams, attendees will rotate through creative stations where they can arrange objects, experiment with techniques, and reinterpret featured photographs in their own unique way.

This free event will begin at 7:30 pm at Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street.

On Tuesday, February 17, the club’s competitive spirit will take center stage as Flagpole Photographers faces off against New Haven Camera Club in the annual interclub competition.

After weeks of reviewing and voting on hundreds of images, members have selected their strongest entries across 25 categories. A guest judge will evaluate paired images side by side and determine a winner in each category, with the club earning the most category wins claiming the title.

This free event is also open to the public and will take place both online and in person at the senior center beginning at 7 pm.

The local photography club will conclude this month’s programming on Thursday, February 26 with its monthly competition night. The evening will begin with social time at 7, followed by the competition at 7:30 pm.

Presented both in person at the senior center and online, the event will showcase members’ work in categories such as Nature, Open Color, Open Monochrome, Assigned Subject, and a Monthly Challenge. February’s assigned subject is “Vintage,” and the monthly challenge is “Ice.”

Looking ahead, Flagpole Photographers invites readers to save the date — Saturday, May 2 — for its annual Workshop Day. Open to photographers of all experience levels, this hands-on field day focuses on capturing the historic charm and beauty of Newtown and Sandy Hook while learning alongside the club’s award-winning members. More details to come.

Flagpole Photographers is a nonprofit camera club committed to nurturing creativity and building community among photographers of all experience levels.
