Three Charges For Driver Who Parked Lexus On Highway Shoulder
A Waterbury resident had their vehicle destroyed and faces three charges following a crash on I-84 West Tuesday night.
A 1997 Lexus ES 300 was parked in the right shoulder of the interstate between Exit 10 and 9 when it was struck by a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia traveling in the right lane around 10:35 pm February 24, according to Connecticut State Police. The CSP report notes the truck was negotiating a right curve when it struck the vehicle.
Desiree Ann Whitfield, 49, of Waterbury, was not with the Lexus when it was struck. Arriving first responders did not know where anyone associated with the destroyed vehicle was and began searching the area. Newtown Hook & Ladder and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded in addition to state troopers.
The driver of the tractor-trailer truck, a 45-year-old male from Lancaster, Calif., was reportedly uninjured.
Whitfield was eventually located, with minor injuries. She was issued misdemeanors for Improper Parking, Operating Under Suspended Driver’s License, and No Insurance.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, the car by Hilario’s Service Center and the truck by Modzelewski’s Auto Body Works.
