A serious crash between a 2003 Ford F-350 and 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe on Wasserman Way Tuesday morning sent three people to the hospital and closed the major thruway for approximately 90 minutes. Newtown Police report the pickup truck was traveling east on Wasserman Way. Operator Stephen M. Ladanyi, 68, of Newtown, told police he lost sight of the roadway before the truck crossed over the double yellow center line into the westbound lane. The Ford crashed head-on into the Tahoe, which was being operated by Renee Weimann, 57, no hometown given. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Newtown Hook & Ladder, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Stony Hill ambulance, and three paramedics also responded. Weimann and Ladanyi were both transported to a hospital for suspected minor injuries. A minor in the truck was transported with suspected serious injuries. Ladanyi was issued infractions for driving on the wrong side of a highway, seat belt-child passenger restraint system not used, and use of handheld mobile telephone/electronic device by operator. —Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue photo
