Girls' Lacrosse Team Wins Opener 16-2

There was no shortage of goals for Newtown High School's girls' lacrosse team in a 16-2 season-opening win at Immaculate of Danbury on April 7. Natalie McLean and Sara Ruddy both scored four goals, Gabby O'Sullivan netted three, and Nicki Kaplan had two goals and a pair of assists to lead the offense.

Sadie Singlak, Blake Heim-Sherwood, and Keira Campbell added goals, and Kaitlyn Doyle had an assist. Heim-Sherwood recorded four draw controls and two ground ball scoops, McLean had three draw controls, Ruddy recorded two draw controls and two ground balls, Doyle logged a pair of draw controls, Claire Campbell had two ground balls, and Audrey McLean had a ground ball. Kaplan caused a couple of turnovers and goaltenders Emily Sachs and Nailah Peters Hopson combined to make seven saves.

The Nighthawks, after Thursday's visit to Stratford-Bunnell, go to Branford Friday, April 10 at 6:30 pm, and will host Pomperaug of Southbury Tuesday, April 14 at 5 pm.
