Nighthawk Tennis Teams Post Victories

Newtown High School's tennis teams earned victories — the boys a 7-0 blanking of Brookfield on April 8 and the girls also a 7-0 win over visiting Brookfield on April 8, along with a 4-3 win at Masuk of Monroe on April 9.

Top singles player A.J. Singh won 6-1, 6-4; and the No 2, 3, and 4 singles players Frankie Cannizzo, Aarev Shetty, and Brody Paulsen all won 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, the top tandem of Ryan Hislop and Steven Singlak won 6-0, 6-3; No 2 Gavin Rankin and Noah Breuing won 6-1, 6-3; and No 3 Dan Tzackas and Sean Conlin won 6-3, 6-4.

Against Masuk, the top three singles and third doubles tandem won for the girls. No 1 singles player Emily Anderson came back from a first-set loss to prevail 6-7, 6-1, 6-1; No 2 Charlotte Grasso won 6-2, 7-6; No 3 Livia Mustachi won 6-2, 6-0; and the doubles team of Sofia McKirdy and Rebecca Goldman won 6-0, 6-2. In the win over Brookfield, Anderson won 6-0, 6-3; Grasso 6-0, 6-1; Mustachi 6-1, 6-4; and Maria Souza 6-2, 6-0. In doubles play, No 1 Ellie Musen and Ella Romano were victorious 6-1, 6-3; No 2 Grace Newsom and Lilah Hage won 6-3, 6-3; and No 3 Caleigh Ward and Mallory McCall won 6-1, 6-2.
