Hit Gate Arm
Newtown Police report that at 9:36 am March 24, Doris Botsford, 81, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Mercedes-Benz E350, exited the Newtown High School parking lot while the exit gate arm bar was closed. Botsford drove beneath the arm, damaging it.
No enforcement action was issued since the incident occurred on private property.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Hugo Avila-Macancela, 52, of Danbury, operating a 2005 Freightliner Conventional, was traveling northbound on Wasserman Way at 7:33 am March 31. He was traveling behind a 2022 Honda Pilot operated by Kayla Licursi, 25, of Newtown. Licursi stopped for a red traffic light and Avila-Macancela rear-ended her vehicle.
Licursi was evaluated by EMS but declined transport. Neither vehicle was towed.
Avila-Macancela was issued an infraction for following too close.
Right Turn From Left Lane
Newtown Police report Chad St Laurent, 50, of Sturbridge, Mass., operating a 2024 GMC Canyon, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road in the left turn only lane at the intersection with The Boulevard at 9:10 am March 31. Greg Ryan, 79, of New Milford, operating a 2022 Ford Escape, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road in the through travel lane. St Laurent attempted to make a right turn from the left turn only lane and struck Ryan's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
St Laurent was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn.
Parking Lot Collision
Newtown Police report Christina Setkoski, 54, of Newtown, operating a 2016 BMW X3, was at a gas pump in the parking lot of 67 Church Hill Road at 2:32 pm April 6. Jhanne Tacuri, 46, of Danbury, operating a 2009 Honda Accord, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road, about to enter the same lot. Setkoski made a U-turn from the pump as Tacuri entered the lot, and the vehicles collided.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Traveling Too Fast
Newtown Police report Martha Castro, 40, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Honda Passport, was traveling eastbound on Bonnie Brae Drive at 5:31 am April 8. While negotiating a left-hand curve in the road, the vehicle went off the roadway right, where it struck a tree.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Castro was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast.
Passing On Right
Newtown Police report Christopher Zorn, 57, of New Fairfield, operating a 2020 Nissan Rogue, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 1:55 pm April 8. He was traveling behind a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Hunter Stone, 20, of Southbury. Zorn passed Stone's vehicle on he right and then stopped in front of him, causing Stone to rear-end his vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Zorn was issued a misdemeanor summons for disorderly conduct and passing on the right. Stone was issued a verbal warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Arrested On Six Warrants
Newtown Police report that at approximately 8:51 am April 9, officers responded to a call for suspicious activity at 62 Church Hill Road. After a brief investigation on scene, it was determined that Joyce Murphy, 65, of Newtown, had six active warrants for her arrest.
She was placed under arrest and charged with six counts of second-degree failure to appear.
A court date was set for April 10 at Danbury Superior Court.
DUI Charge
Newtown Police report that at 9:47 pm April 9, officers were dispatched to Dayton Street for a report of suspicious activity.
Arriving officers investigated and took Kristen Heald, 29, of Newtown, into custody. She was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, and assault of a public safety officer.
Heald was held on a $15,000 bond with a court date of September 10 in Danbury Superior Court.
Arrested On PRAWN Warrant
Newtown Police report that on April 11, Nerlande Foote, 40, of Newtown, turned herself in to Newtown Police Department for an active PRAWN warrant for her arrest for second-degree failure to appear.
Foote was released after posting a $5,000 cash bond with a court date of April 28 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
Struck Utility Pole
Newtown Police report that Dinelson Rosario-Tejeda, 30, of Danbury, operating a 2018 Audi S5, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 2:23 am April 11. Rosario-Tejeda crossed the centerline, left the roadway off the southbound shoulder, and struck a utility pole.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Rosario-Tejeda was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and making an improper turn.
Rosario-Tejeda was released on a $500 cash bond with a court date of April 23.
Weapon Possession Charge
Newtown Police report that at 3:56 pm April 11, officers were dispatched to Berkshire Road for a report of suspicious activity.
Officers arrived and conducted an investigation. Upon conclusion, Peter Lamonte, 67, of Sandy Hook, was taken into custody and charged with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, and second-degree breach of peace.
Lamonte was released on a $1,500 non-surety bond and assigned a court date of April 23 in Danbury Superior Court.
Door Damage Dispute
Newtown Police report that at 3:39 pm April 13, dispatch received a report of a motor vehicle incident in the lot of 5 Queen Street. Kelly Andros of Southbury reported that while parked, the driver's side door of a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Marilyn Heilweil of Newtown contacted the side of Andros' 2021 Subaru Outback.
Heilweil stated she believed her car door did not cause the mark.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
