A 14-year-old juvenile was behind the wheel of a 2022 Honda HR-V EX that caused the closure of a state road for several hours last week after the SUV crashed into a utility pole.

Newtown Police Department responded to the crash with minor injuries on Dodgingtown Road/State Route 302 near Cemetery Road at approximately 11:54 am Wednesday, April 29.

The vehicle was traveling northwest on the state road when it went up the embankment, crashed into the utility pole, and rolled onto its driver’s side, opposite Envy Towing & Recovery.

The driver and passenger, another juvenile, were both able to self-extricate.

Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and a paramedic also responded to the crash, which kept Dodgingtown Road closed for a few hours until the pole could be repaired.

Both occupants were transported to Danbury Hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation remains open pending the issuance of enforcement to the juvenile operator, Newtown PD said April 30.

Due to the ages of the vehicle occupants, no further details will be released regarding this incident, the PD also stated.
