Boski To Demonstrate Gestural Painting During Next SCAN Artist’s Demo
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host Souby Boski demonstrating a still life in oil on Wednesday, May 27, at 1:30 pm, at Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street. The demonstration is open to the public and admission is free.
For those who are looking for an impressionistic spontaneity in their work; want to apply paint in a more gestural, painterly manner; and/or want to stop overworking details, Boski will share tips on how to communicate visually with suggestions rather than trying to describe everything in precise detail. Working quickly, she will simplify the subject by using gestures, contrasts, and color.
Boski is a painter and ceramicist working in Litchfield County. She has been an art teacher in Connecticut public schools and an adjunct professor of art at Naugatuck Valley Community College.
Since 2004, she has been teaching painting and ceramics at art education venues in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Florida.
Boski earned a BA in Art Education from Stetson University and an MALS in Art from Wesleyan University. She has studied painting with nationally recognized artists and teachers including Eric Aho, Ira Barkoff, Lois Dodd, and Ruth Miller. Her work has been exhibited in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and New York.
Additionally, Boski has served as president and education chair for Washington Art Association in Washington Depot. Since 2021, she has served on its Exhibition Committee.
Reservations are not required for SCAN programs but additional information may be found at SCANart.org.
