Veterans, Community Gathered For American Legion Post 202 Memorial Day Service

On May 23, American Legion Post 202 presented its annual Memorial Day Ceremony, honoring fallen comrades with a program of remembrance. The event took place in the theater of Edmond Town Hall due to rainy weather conditions. Among the dignitaries who spoke were Newtown First Selectman Bruce Walczak, State Representative Mitch Bolinsky, and State Representative Martin Foncello. The master of ceremonies was Adjunct Tara Carr, US Army lieutenant colonel, retired. James Gaston led the Pledge of Allegiance. American Legion Auxiliary representatives Barbara Carlson and Carol Yanosy also spoke. Music was provided by the Newtown High School Tri-M Club.

Attendees stood and saluted the flag during the pledge and national anthem.
Luminarias were placed on the theater’s stage with the names of veterans who have passed away or with personal messages printed on the luminary bags.
