Family: My parents and an older sister.
Do you have any nicknames? Nikki.
How long have you lived in Newtown? My whole life.
Work: I am a full-time student. I’m going to Purdue next year, with a focus on engineering. I’m not sure what type yet, but I’ve always been a very math-focused person.
Are you an active member of any clubs, organizations, and/or communities of faith? At the high school I am president of UNICEF, which is a lot of fun. We do a lot of fundraisers. I am also co-president of the Pet & Animal Welfare Society. We also do a bunch of events for that. Most recently we just had a food drive and we got to go to CVH and donate a lot of that. I am also secretary of the National Honor Society at the high school.
What is your favorite subject? Math. I’ve always loved math. Physics has also been fun recently. I’ve always been a STEM-heavy person.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I like to crochet. I’ve been doing that a lot and actually did that for my Capstone. I also like to paint, and I do Indian dance.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I’m majoring in engineering, so something along that line.
Favorite TV shows? The OC, and I also love Brooklyn 99 and Modern Family. Brooklyn 99 and Modern Family are my favorite shows to watch when I want a good laugh.
What is the most recent movie you saw in the theater? Devil Wears Prada 2.
Who would you like to be stuck in an elevator with? Christina Koch. She was the female astronaut who just went up in space and she said some things that were very inspiring to me. It’d be really cool to talk to her about that.
Favorite food? My favorite cuisine is Mexican. I don’t think I could pick a favorite food. I also like Mediterranean foods. I love trying different foods. That’s fun for me.
Favorite color? Purple.
Favorite season? I always go back and forth, but this year it’s spring.
What is your proudest accomplishment? I don’t think there’s one specific accomplishment that I’ve been proud of, but the way I’ve gotten here — I’m proud of the fact that I’ve been able to achieve so much in high school and still had a positive experience through it all.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? My favorite vacation was Hawaii. We did so many things and excursions that I will always remember. It got cut short because it was the year of the fires there, but even while we were there we still made the best of it and we were able to try so many fun foods there. It was so cool.
What is your favorite thing about Newtown? The people. It’s such a community. Everyone’s always able to help and volunteer for anything that I would need help on. It feels tight-knit.
Do you have a personal credo? Take advantage of every opportunity that you get. My parents have always told me that, and I take that to heart.
